ISO 22000 questions

Is ISO 22000 the same as FSSC 22000?

No. ISO 22000 is the standard itself. FSSC 22000 is a certification scheme that builds on ISO 22000 and adds sector-specific prerequisite requirements.

Do we still need HACCP?

ISO 22000 incorporates HACCP principles. Your existing HACCP plan becomes part of the food safety management system rather than a separate document.

Does it cover packaging?

Food contact packaging and food packaging manufacturing can be certified under ISO 22000 with an appropriate scope, though some buyers specify a sector scheme.

How often are surveillance audits?

Typically annually, with recertification in year three. High-risk operations may be audited more frequently under scheme rules.
